“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – Michael Altshule

Yesterday, 28th June 2013, marks my 2 years flying anniversary and I thought I would like to dedicate a post for this special day. Happy 2 years flying! 🙂 Wow~ It has been 2 years since I embarked on this journey to fulfill my dreams of seeing the world. It was rather selfish but I am glad my boy has supported my decisions. We have been through many ups and downs in our relationship. It is not easy but I guess we will find ways to make things right when things go wrong.

When I was 14 years old, I was intrigued by a question that I asked myself – “What is the meaning of life?” I contemplated this question for a long time and finally came to a revelation that nobody will be able to help me answer this question except myself. I have to define my own life’s meaning. Life is short and I need to know what I want to achieve in my life. We will all age, it is inevitable and so is death. You will never know what will happen tomorrow, so live in the moment and achieve what you want to do so badly. There will always be people who doubt you but the saddest part is when you doubt yourself. Never, never let others define you. I have a very strong desire to explore the world and this is how I decided that I must travel and see the world as much as I can. I am not envious of women who own the latest collection of Chanel bags but I suffer from travel envy. I am super envious of well-traveled enthusiasts who have the balls to leave everything behind and become full-time travelers. I wish I have the guts to do it but sadly, I dun. I also like to watch travel documentaries, listen to friends’ travel experiences and yes, there are a few travel blogs that I follow as well.

Out of the 195 countries in this world, I have only visited 28 countries (as of 29 June 2013). There are so many places that I want to go like Bhutan, Nepal, Mongolia, Alaska, etc. I wouldn’t dare to consider myself as a well-traveled person but I am grateful for all these wonderful opportunities. The best part is I am being paid to do what I love and I just need to make people happy. How awesome is that! I studied Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in Temasek Poly and many of my course mates are also travel fanatics. I used to fantasize about visiting these places that we did in our projects and it is an amazing feeling to make it become a reality. I love to travel sooooo much and I really can’t stand staying in Singapore for more than a week. This little red dot is getting hopelessly crowded and we are slowly losing our identity. But nevertheless, this is the only place I call home and I know I will always be coming back to home.

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open” – Jawaharial Nehru

The world is big, the life is short. This wonderful world is full of beauty, charm and adventure and it awaits your exploration. So, why wait until you retire to experience the world? The best time is always now. There is so much things to do but there is so little time. I want to see the world as much as I can within my capabilities. I have not done a solo backpacking trip before and I hope to get this check off from my to-do lists next year. Taiwan maybe? 🙂

Irene’s Travel Blog is where I blog solely about my travel’s experiences, thoughts and emotions. You can’t really get any tips, itineraries or reviews about the destination, attractions or hotels, etc but I hope you enjoy reading about my travel’s lifestyle. I am no travel expert and I suck at geography. I am quite a bimbo traveler, a hopeless direction idiot who always get herself lost. I spent a lot of time and unnecessary walking trying to understand the map and find the right direction. I am not good in my directions but still, I am proud to say I will always be able to find my way back! Hehe. There is a site stats function but I am just really curious to know who are exactly the ones reading my blog. I am noob with using WordPress and I dunno how to create a chat box but there is a comment section. Come come give me a shout out! I promise I won’t bite and I will reply when I see it. And yup…Please stay tune for my next post alright! 🙂

  • I just like, I envy with those travel much compare those own owned a high-end bags. For me, I am willing to save money to travel more and see more rather than waste thousand of dollars just on a bag. Neh, that’s so not me! Happy 2 year flying. Cool man! You are so young but managed to travel more. I only managed to travel up to 26 countries up to date.

    • Hi Diana! I saw your blog! It is great! 26 countries is really impressive too! I think you should be younger than me cos you look so young too! Keep on traveling! Cheers! 🙂

  • Hi Irene,
    Happy 2nd anniversary in flying.

I came across your blog while I was searching for travel blogs capturing other travellers’ experiences in travelling to the Grampians in Australia. Didn’t quite get that from your blog but I enjoyed reading about your travel experiences. It has a personal touch to it that I don’t really see in the popular blogs whereby entries are more sponsored reviews rather than a blogger’s true experiences. I know you are nominated for the blog awards. I have voted for you too. All the best and continue blogging!

    • Hi Gladys! Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks so much for voting for me! I dun think I will be able to win it with the tough competition but it was a nice recognition. Please visit my blog again and see ya around 🙂

  • Congrats on two years flying! I like reading yr blog cuz you remind me a lot of myself when I started flying! I joined for the very same reason – at that age, no other job would allow me to travel as flying does.

    • Thanks J! I love flying and I can’t imagine what I gonna do next if I have to quit flying. Too comfortable with the lifestyle, so carefree and no stress at all. But I know I will need to leave one day too and have a backup plan. Hope you are doing well and enjoying time with your loved ones in sg! 🙂

  • Hi Irene, is there really a job that paid to travel around?! I guess i’m somehow a idiot….. Also i like to fly oversea, and if there is a chance to travel without burning a big hole in my saving i will definitely say Yes!

Anyway nice blog! I love reading it!
