Travel Guide to Switzerland (Day 5)

Day 5 – Arriving in Lausanne from Bern

The average journey time between Lausanne and Bern is 1 hour 5 minutes. The train fare costs about €26 for 2nd class ticket and you can purchase your train tickets in advance from Lausanne is in the French-speaking region of Switzerland, and is the fourth largest city in Switzerland.

I always try to book ‘forward facing’ seats for long train journey with the reason that I find that it is not particularly comfortable ending up in a train seat that faces backward.

The train ride passes through some of the most beautiful mountains and gorgeous views of the Swiss countryside.

The scenery is simply not to be missed and this is what I adore about taking a train ride in Europe, to admire the beautiful window-framed scenery!

Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne

Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL) is one of the world’s best hospitality management school. From Lausanne railway station, I took a 20 minutes metro ride to Croisette and 10 minutes bus ride to EHL. I felt that my sense of direction has improved tremedously when I eached EHL to meet my polytechnic friend Shinn.

This is my friend Shinn and I am so proud of her for being the first student in Temasek Polytechnic’s Hospitality and Tourism Management to gain admission into EHL, which is accepted industry-wide as the best hotel school in the world.

The mountain and gorgeous views of the Swiss countryside make EHL one of the nation’s most desirable and condusive environment to go grad school.

We went to the Old Town, one of the beautiful highlights in Lausanne boasting numerous attractions including historical building and cobble stone streets.

Just strolling around the cobblestone streets and admiring the glory of that beautiful sunset are pleasant enough.

Lausanne Cathedral

We also visited Lausanne Cathedral, the most beautiful Gothnic church in Switzerland.

The interior of Lausanne Cathedral is Gothic at its most elegant design with beautiful window paintings.

Another place that you have to visit when you are in Lausanne is Lake Geneva. Lake Geneva is one of the largest lake in Western Europe and is shared between Switzerland and France.

Somehow or rather, it feels different to catch up with your friend in overseas and know more about their life. It is also great to know that they are doing well in their own field.

Shinn brought me to have our dinner at Cafe Romand to taste the authentic Swiss food. It was really a lovely and comfortable evening with Shinn and we had so much to talk about ranging from school, work, life, travel, future and etc. It didn’t feel like we have only met and talked to each other for the very first time. Thank you Shinn for hosting me in Lausanne!
