Travel Guide to Switzerland (Day 1)

Geography of Switzerland

Switzerland is surrounded by 5 countries: Germany to the north, Italy to the south, Austria and Liechtenstein to the east and France to the west. Due to the country’s unique geographical location, there are four official languages; German, Italian, Romansh and French. English is also widely spoken and understood in Switzerland.

Switzerland has 8 major airports commonly used by tourists as shown on the map:

Switzerland is rated as one of the most expensive travel destination in Europe, however, it is possible to travel the country on a budget. It may be difficult to plan but it is definitely achievable. There are so much to see with so little time. You may ask how to plan your one week trip to Switzerland? To help you get started on planning for your trip to Switzerland, I’ve listed out the top places to visit in this most beautiful country in the world. Here is my recommended itinerary:

Day 1 – Arriving in Zurich

It was a work trip and my company provided us with accommodation in this 4-star rated hotel, Crowne Plaza Zurich.

Crowne Plaza Zurich

Address: Badenerstrasse 420, Zurich 8040, Switzerland

The city is divided into the Old Town and the New Town. Many houses that are historically and architecturally interesting with authentic feel still exist in the Old Town. Whereas the New Town has some very fine streets, mainly composed of suburbs and surrounding townships.

In this historical district, you can enjoy the slower pace of life and dine in one of many exquisite restaurants. Switzerland is famously known for the finest quality of cheese and home to about 450 varieties of cheese.

  • Lunch at Restaurant Swiss Chuchi

If you’ve never tried Swiss fondue, I’ll recommend Restaurant Swiss Chuchi, a popular spot with tourists and locals. Cheese addicts will love dipping the cubes of bread into this pot of bubbling, gooey Swiss cheese fondue.

Restaurant Swiss Chuchi

Address: Rosengasse 10, Zurich 8001, Switzerland

  • Swimming at Lake Zurich

Zurich offers plenty of splendid opportunities for a swim and the water is cleaner than in most European cities. Lake Zurich is one of the best places to take a refreshing dip and the lake itself is so beautiful that you just want to sit beside it and feed the swans.

  • Dinner at Vapiano

I adore Italian food and I’ll recommend this restaurant called Vapiano, which is taking a unique spin on Italian dining. At Vapiano, you’re in charge and can choose which pasta you prefer and the chef will cook. The restaurant has an open concept kitchen and you can see your food being prepared right in front of you.

Address: Kalanderplatz 9, Zurich 8045, Switzerland

– End of Day 1 –

Zurich LONG TIME ago.

Oh wow! It is another week again since I last update my blog! I thought I will blog pretty often last month but I only managed to write 2 posts. I still have not blogged about my trip to Penguin Island, Versailles and Cambridge. I really want blog about it before I forget the details but right now, I felt like blogging more about my thoughts and emotions.

I just came back from Zurich two days ago. Met up with a friend and we went swimming at Lake Zurich. This was my first time swimming outdoor in overseas! I was very enthusiastic to swim and I only realized that I couldn’t swim very swim after I jumped into the lake. My friend had to pull me up just like how we did during our safety training. I really thought I gonna drown and it was so embarrassing. Nevertheless, I felt quite great about myself cos I am building up my courage day by day.

This is the only photo I gonna post about my Zurich trip. I lost my Fujifilm X100s charger and the photos I took with my Samsung S4 are not nice at all. We wanted to jump off the platform but it rained when we came back to do the jump. I will have the courage to jump one day. I don’t want to let fear to overpower me and stop me from doing things that I always wanted. I want to skydive and scuba dive. I have great fear for heights and the ocean but I am learning to overcome all these fears.

I am coping pretty well with the heartache. Maybe I am learning how to expect less from others and love myself more. People are not obligated to treat you well and it is a bonus if they do. I really appreciate those who treat me well sincerely and I glad that I have friends who are there when I needed them. There will be some who will tell you happiness is more important than anything and you should do things with an unclear mind cos you will feel happier that way. Let me tell you… These are probably the people you need to keep a distance from. This is just short-term happiness and you will suffer from the bad decisions you have made.

I think I look a little different compared to one month plus ago. I think I look a little better… a little slimmer… a little darker… a little fitter… I have already checked off all the list which I blog last week. I did my eyelash extension and also navel piercing!

We went to the Zoo in Zurich!

Zurich, Switzerland

It was an unexpected trip to the zoo because I’m not exactly an animal lover. I can’t picture  myself visiting the zoo in Singapore but the zoo in Zurich is pretty different from the usual zoo I have been to. For some reasons, the animals look different and unusual in this zoo.

For a start, this monkey looks different from the usual monkeys we see in Southeast Asia.

There were two old ladies having their own drawing session in the zoo.

Peacefully taking their time to finish their drawings. 🙂

Which is the head and tail? I am unable to provide the names of the animals because everything including the brochure and signage are all in German.

Electric Eels

I had a little fun playing with the slides meant for the children. I cannot deny that I enjoy doing childish things at times. I am still very young at heart. Hehe!

We also visited FIFA Headquarter which is just nearby to the zoo.

And…Here is my company (the great animal lover) for the day! 🙂
